Not to be deterred, we started early Sunday morning and followed the correct route to the summit of Lindsey, where you see me here. The prominent peak behind me is Blanca Peak, another Colorado fourteener. There was steep climbing on the way and I wanted to be able to wear my glove to possibly save some skin on the rocks, so the finger of the glove had to be cut out to allow enough room for the splint. You can sort of see that in the picture. Only 7 other groups signed in on the summit register that day, and just 8 had signed in on Saturday. Considering how few hikers were on the trail that weekend, I felt very fortunate that one of those was doctor who happened along at just the right time. Disclaimer The background image that I used for the first page of this story is not Mount Lindsey proper, but rather a nearby peak which is connected to Lindsey by a short ridge. The route to Lindsey takes climbers up most of this peak (this stretch is the most difficult part of the route). Due to its location, Lindsey is not actually visible to hikers until they make it over this lesser companion peak. No rocks were harmed turning the photographing of this story. |
